If I were to buy a WDW AP this month (September) and not use it until February, would it expire one year after the first use, or one year after purchasing? I would like to purchase one before they sell out since there is a limited amount of AP's.

Hello and welcome to planDisney, Abby! I'm so glad you've dropped by to talk about Annual Passes.

I've been a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder for years now, Abby, and I can say with absolute confidence that it is well worth the initial investment. I was so giddy when the announcement came out over on the Disney Parks Blog a few days about new passes going on sale on September 8th. I know so many people were anxiously awaiting and now more people can experience a year of magical memories.

Abby, when you purchase a Walt Disney World Annual Pass it is not yet activated. You actually activate your pass the first time you use it at a Walt Disney World Theme Park. The expiration of your pass is one year from activation. So you can go ahead and purchase yourself an annual pass and then save it for your trip in February 2022. If that's the first time you use your pass then your expiration date won't be until February 2023.

The Walt Disney World Annual Pass program is getting a bit of a structure change. Now, out-of-state Guests like yourself only have the option to purchase 1 type of pass. You'll want to take a look at the new Disney Incredi-Pass which will be available for you to purchase on September 8th. This pass gives you access to all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks 365 days of the year with no blockout dates. You'll also be able to hold up to 5 park pass reservations at a time without a Disney resort stay which is really nice! Currently, we've been able to hold 3 park pass reservations and it can be a struggle on long weekends. The Disney Incredi-Pass also gives you complimentary theme park parking and great discounts on food and merchandise. It's a great plan and the one that is the most comparable to the annual pass I currently have.

I hope this helps, Abby! I'm excited for you that you might be joining the Walt Disney World Annual Passholder family very soon! If you have any other questions about the program or anything else, please feel free to come back and ask me. I'm happy to help.

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
