Hi Charles!
Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for sending this great Disneyland Resort
Magic Key question our way.
This is a great question as so many people do "live" within an hour or two of Disneyland Resort who aren't technically permanent California residents for a variety of reasons. My family was in the same boat in 2018 when my husband was stationed at an Air Force base an hour's drive from Mickey's original house; just like out of state college students, Military members (plus their spouses and children) aren't required to get new driver's licenses as we move around the world every few years. I'm happy to report that I was able to purchase multiple Annual Passes (with the monthly payment plan option) by providing my Military ID and a copy of a utility bill as temporary residency proof, and I'd think that the same would apply to college students as well. (We've since moved from California so I can't comment the same about purchasing a
Magic Key, however, I suspect that nothing has changed.)
I do see that you claim California in your 'My Disney Account' (what you used to log-in with to write this question, what you'll use to connect your Key to the
Disneyland Mobile App, etc) which I assume means you entered your temporary address. You should be set to move ahead with
purchasing the pass online, however, do know that if you run into any issues the first day of use that Guest Relations and the ticket booths in The Esplanade are still open for assistance. (They
are trying to minimize person-to-person interactions, but they are still processing day-ticket-to-Magic-Key upgrades for guests who wish to use cash or gift cards, so I know that they'll be able to help you in verifying your living situation.) Don't forget to bring your student ID with you every visit, bring your state ID with you if you're over 21 and wish to purchase an adult beverage, and
for sure bring that utility bill with you (or be able to pull up a most recent bill on your phone) your first visit. But most of all Have fun!!
I hope that you have many Best! Days! Ever! as a new Magic Key holder, Charles, and if there's anything else that we can answer for you We're All Ears!
