If I buy a park hopper ticket, will I be able to upgrade to a Magic Key pass at the park upon arrival and have that count toward the price of the Magic Key pass?

    Welcome to planDisney, Marissa!

I'm so glad that you are planning on upgrading to a Magic Key pass during your next visit! A Magic Key is the best way to experience all the joy and wonder of the Disneyland Resort all year long. You can upgrade an unused or partially unused, unexpired ticket to a Magic Key pass and pay the difference in price in-full or, since you are a California resident, you can opt for the monthly payment plan. The best route to take to upgrade your ticket is to make a theme park reservation and visit the parks as you normally would. After you have entered one of the parks that day, you will see an option in the Disneyland app to upgrade your ticket to a Magic Key.

If you have a one-day ticket, you will need to make sure you upgrade to a Magic Key before the parks close that evening. If you have a multi-day ticket, I suggest upgrading on your last day in the parks before the parks close that day. This is because if you upgrade a theme park ticket to a Magic Key, any future theme park reservations associated with that ticket will be cancelled at the time of upgrade. So if you upgrade on day one of a three-day ticket, your theme park reservations for days two and three will be canceled and there may not be availability to make new reservations or your pass type may be blocked out on those days. Keep in mind that theme park reservations will still be required with your Magic Key pass and you will use a different theme park reservation availability calendar than those with day tickets.

I hope this was helpful. Have a delightful time at the Happiest Place on Earth!
