If I buy a one day ticket and want to upgrade my ticket to a magic key pass at the gate and I’m a California resident, do I still have to pay the first months payment right away? Or will it begin the next month?

    Hi Kristyn,

Thanks for visiting planDisney! Many guests come to the park, and their love for Disney is either sparked or reignited, leading them to choose to upgrade to a Magic Key.

As you mentioned, you can upgrade most tickets to an available Magic Key. The cost of your ticket(s) will go toward the price of your Magic Key. As a California resident, you can make monthly payments on your Magic Key. The difference between the price of your ticket(s) and the Magic Key will be divided over your remaining months with the pass. Since there are various ticket scenarios, be sure to ask the Cast Member helping you when your next payment is due. Unfortunately, the sale of Magic Keys is currently paused. I know that’s a Bibbidi Bobbidi Bummer, but you can sign up for notifications to be alerted when Magic Keys go back on sale.

Kristyn, I wanted to make sure you know that Disneyland is offering special tickets for the 70th Anniversary. These are 3-day or 4-day tickets, available for visits between May 16 and August 14, 2025 (subject to park reservation availability). You can also upgrade these tickets to include Park Hopper access, allowing you to move between both parks starting at 11 a.m. This promotion lets you visit the parks over the summer and experience all the amazing entertainment coming to the parks. I would be lying if I didn’t admit I have my eye on the new 70th Anniversary merchandise. A Spirit Jersey is calling my name! Be sure to check out the Disney Parks Blog for the 70th Anniversary Guide.

I hope this information was helpful, Kristyn. If you have any other questions, need additional help, or would love more advice, please feel free to write back to me or any of my fellow panelists—we’d be happy to assist.

Have a great, big, beautiful tomorrow!
