Hello Mariav,
Thanks for stopping by
planDisney with your question. Summer will be here before you know it, and so will your visit to join
The World's Most Magical Celebration.
So, the FastPass that you may be used to, no longer exists. FastPass lines at attractions are now called
Lightning Lanes and have much shorter wait times than the traditional Standby Line that is available to every guest.
How do you access these Lightning Lanes? There are a couple of ways. Adding Genie+ to your tickets will give you the ability to select Lightning Lane return times for over 40 attractions throughout all 4 theme parks. When you purchased your tickets, you could add that option to your entire vacation. However, you can also add Genie+ to each day of your vacation beginning at midnight. Don't worry if you aren't a night owl, you can make that purchase in the morning that you plan on visiting a park. I just recommend purchasing it BEFORE 7:00 AM when you'll be able to make your first Lightning Lane selection for the day. I like the option to purchase it daily, because you may find that there are some parks where you don't really need Genie+.
Having Genie+ doesn't mean you'll be able to automatically hop into a Lightning Lane for every attraction. You'll be able to book Lightning Lanes, one at a time, throughout the day. After you've made your first Lightning Lane selection, you'll either need to 1) check in to that attraction where you have a Lightning Lane booked, or 2) wait 120 minutes before making another selection.
There are a couple of really popular attractions, like
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in
Disney's Hollywood Studios, that are not included with your Genie+ purchase. If you want to avoid the standby lines for these rides you can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane. Basically, each guest can pay a fee to use the Lightning Lane. You can make 2 Individual Lightning Lane purchases, per guest, per day.
Walt Disney World Resort Hotel guests have a slight advantage when it comes to Individual Lightning Lanes, because they can make selections at 7:00 AM. Other guests will have to wait until the park they are visiting opens for the day to book Individual Lightning Lanes.
If you haven't already added
My Disney Experience app to your mobile device, you'll need to. Add it soon. That way you can look at the Tip Board for each park. It will help you know what to expect as far as wait times for each attraction. You may decide that the standby lines seem perfectly manageable for some parks.
Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
