Welcome to planDisney, Giovanni! I'm so glad to be able to answer your question today. I'm so excited to hear that you're going to be at Walt Disney World at the end of December. It's a super fun place to be to ring in the new year, and I've got lots of tips, so let's jump right in!
Great news first: if you're buying a standard, date-based
Park Hopper ticket, you don't need park reservations, so all the "blocked" status you're seeing for
Magic Kingdom applies to ticket types that
do require reservations, not to you. With a regular Park Hopper, you can enter your first park and then hop to another park at your convenience without a reservation.
That said, New Year's Eve at Magic Kingdom is wildly popular, and it's one of the few days each year when the park can reach capacity and temporarily pause new admissions using phased closures. If that happens, you'll get an alert in the
My Disney Experience app via push notification, and you'll see updates in the app throughout the day. These closures are rare, but they do happen on the biggest days, including December 31st, when there is a
special evening fireworks show.
What's the play if Magic Kingdom is your goal? Arrive early and be prepared to stay once you're in. If you hop away mid-day during a capacity closure, re-entry isn't guaranteed until the phase lifts, so it's smart to plan your meals, breaks, and fireworks viewing all inside Magic Kingdom that day if ending the day there is your goal. Keep notifications on and check the app's tip board for live updates.
As for the rest of Walt Disney World, EPCOT will also be extremely popular on New Year's Eve, but you generally don't need to worry about Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom reaching capacity. They can be busy, but phased closure typically does not happen.
I hope this answers your question, Giovanni, and please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help you plan your magical vacation!
