If I buy an annual pass and then suddenly had to cancel my trip and wouldn’t be back in time before the passes expire, would I be able to apply the money towards another pass in the future?

Hi Thuy. Welcome to planDisney, where we try to bring a little magic (or a lot) to every Guest by answering their questions!

I too am eyeing the option of purchasing an annual pass to the Walt Disney World Resort. As you may have heard, it was recently announced that all four versions of the annual pass will be on sale online on April 20, 2023. Since these passes are limited, it will likely be important that you (and possibly me) act quickly to secure one! With an annual pass, you can visit the parks multiple times throughout the year as long as you secure Theme Park Reservations. Furthermore, you get access to some great discounts and wonderful benefits.

When you buy a new annual pass, your activation date is the date of your first use of the pass. This means that your activation date is the first day you use the pass to enter a theme park at the resort, not the date you purchase it (unless they are the same dates). You have up to one year to activate a new pass. This means that if you purchase an annual pass, book your first vacation, and have to cancel that vacation, your pass will not be activated. As long as you use the annual pass for the first time within a year of purchase, your annual pass will be good for a year after your activation date. If you decide to renew after using it for a year, your renewal date cannot be changed. Your renewal date will always be the yearly anniversary of your first use.

To further put your mind at ease, if you do not activate your annual pass within a year of purchasing it, you can usually use the value you paid for your pass toward the purchase of a new annual pass. However, you will be responsible for the difference if the pass were to cost more at that point and no refunds will be given if the price happens to be less. The terms and conditions may be helpful to browse before buying your pass.

Thuy, with your new annual pass, you will be able to make so many magical memories every year. And if you really want to maximize your annual pass, you can look into Disney Vacation Club. This way, your park tickets are covered by your annual pass, and your hotel accommodations are covered through your Disney Vacation Club membership. Talk about staying magical year after year!
