Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I think you’re asking about Pin Trading, which is a really cool “extra magic” activity at the Disney Parks.
Most of the shops in the Disney Resort hotels and in the theme parks sell lanyards, which you wear around your neck, and starter packs of fun, Disney themed pins, which you attach to the lanyard. You can purchase pins that reflect your interests – there are pins representing characters, food, attractions, and so much more. The other way to build your pin collection is Pin Trading. You’ll notice Cast Members throughout Walt Disney World wearing lanyards covered with pins. You can approach those Cast Members and ask if they’d like a pin trade. They’ll show you their pins and tell you amazing stories about them – often Cast Members have exclusive pins – and then you can offer pins of yours to trade. My niece loves pin trading because it’s an opportunity to talk to Cast Members, learn about their pins, hear their stories…and then walk away with a new pin with a magical story attached to it.

ShopDisney. Also, because you mentioned buttons, I do want to share about Celebration Buttons. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or another special occasion, you can ask for a free Celebration Button from Cast Members at your Resort Hotel or Guest Services in the theme parks, and you’ll receive good wishes and pixie dust from fellow Guests and Cast Members when you wear it.
