how busy are the parks during January? What about the weather? (Traveling from Texas)

    Hey Paige!

Welcome to planDisney. My parents actually live in Texas, so I’m happy to be chatting with a fellow Texan. The fantastic weather and the lower crowds make January an ideal time to visit Walt Disney World Resort.

Unlike Olaf, I’m not a massive fan of Summer. My favorite times to visit Walt Disney World Resort are Fall and Winter. The weather in January is typically less humid and very pleasant. I recommend wearing layers in January. It starts chilly in the mornings, gets to around the low to mid-70s in the afternoon, and then back to chilly when the sun goes down. Now I say typically because Texas and Florida are eerily similar with temperatures. The only thing constant is that it is likely to change. So layers will always be a safe bet. Also, January tends to be drier, but I never go anywhere without a mini umbrella as someone who lived in Florida for six years. A stray shower may appear during your vacation, and you will be happy to have it.

As far as crowds, January overall tends to be lower. Except for a few notable events:

Walt Disney World Marathon: January 5th-9th
EPCOT International Festival of the Arts: January 14th- February 21st (the first week tends to be the most crowded of the entire festival)
Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend: January 15th-17th

These peak times may have higher crowds for the month but I personally find them to be a lot more manageable than other times during the year.

I hope this information is helpful to you in planning your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
