My brother in law is having surgery before we leave for our trip to DW . We've never had someone in a wheelchair before but I was wondering how hard it is going to be to navigate through the parks? I've been worried about resorts, restaurants, buses, etc.

    Hi Tomas,

My mother is in a wheelchair, and she was with us at WDW last summer without any problems.  In fact my father still comments about how impressed he was with how well the cast members worked with her to assist her with getting onto Disney transportation (including Magical Express), the attractions, and the restaurants.   The cast members are truly pros!

One thing we did do beforehand was to include a notation in our Magical Express reservation about my mom being in a wheelchair and included notes in both our resort reservation as well as all of our dining reservations. Also, all of the attractions include signs that indicate if guests can remain in their wheelchairs or must transfer out of them, so we took the time to carefully study the signs, too.  If you'd like to read more about visiting Walt Disney World with guests with mobility issues, just click here.

I hope this helps to make you feel more reassured about your brother in law visiting in a wheelchair, and I hope all goes well with his surgery.

Thank you for visiting the Moms Panel; please let us know if we can help again.
