I broke my foot and just had surgery with a pin put in. I am now using a knee scooter and will be there from 12/23 to 1/3. It is the holiday season and really worried about how I am going to get around with that or just get a scooter with the crowds.

Hi Marie, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I had foot surgery this summer, and have been to Walt Disney World three times since with a broken foot and two pins, so I absolutely understand your worries. In my opinion, you should rent an Electronic Conveyance Vehicle (ECV) so you can enjoy your visit. I didn’t rent one, and I spent my Disney days with a very sore and swollen foot, feeling constantly anxious that someone would step on it. There is so much walking (and standing) on a Disney vacation, and I came home all three times with extra-swollen, bruised feet, and blisters on the foot I was favoring. It’s going to be very busy in the parks over the holiday, and I think trying to navigate a knee scooter will be challenging, and I think I would be stressed about the foot being bumped in that position.

I also recommend inquiring at Guest Relations about getting a Disability Access Pass. These passes allow you to get a return time for attractions, so you can spend your waiting time sitting on a nearby bench rather than standing. Take full advantage of FastPass+, and remember that once you’ve used your initial three, you can add another, one at a time, for the rest of the day. These will help reduce your time standing as well.

Finally, bring large resealable bags for ice. My strategy was to double-bag the gallon size, send my husband to fill it with ice from the ice machine, and then wrap it in a towel while I elevated the foot. You will definitely want to ice at the end of a long Disney day!

Enjoy your holiday visit, Marie! I’m sending you pixie-dusted wishes for a smooth healing and recovery process. Please come back and see me if you have any further questions!

Wishing you a merry and magical vacation,
