Bringing our 4 yr old back to WDW in May '12, staying at All Star Movies, but as I look at some reviews/pictures on other websites I am wondering whether or not to pick another resort? Is this hotel really that outdated? Would I be better at Sports or Pop?

Ashley, it is hard to read reviews and know if you would feel the same way.  I don't think I would ever have a horrible experience at any of the Disney resorts but over the years I do have my favorites.

I see you are coming in May and you might want to consider the brand new Art of Animation Value resort which is due to open the beginning of May 2012.  Being brand new you won't have any questions about it being outdated!  You can read more here http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/art-of-animation-resort/.

Beyond this brand new resort I have fallen in love with Pop Century.  I find the rooms clean and well suited to my needs as well as love the layout of the resort. I also enjoy the fact that it does not share a bus system with any other value resort while the All Star resorts all share.  This might change with the addition of Art of Animation but have not heard what the bus routes will be once that opens.

I wouldn't worry a ton about your resort choice.  It is fun to try one on this visit and then try another on your next until you too develop your own favorites.  You don't spend a ton of time at your room and as long as you have the amenities you need at your resort choice you will be fine!
