we are bringing our youngest three to WDW for the first time. They were all adopted from foster care. It is unlikely that we will be able to do this again for a while. Which resort would offer the best trip, Cabins at Fort Wilderness or Boardwalk Inn?

    Donna:

I've stayed at both Fort Wilderness and Boardwalk Inn many times. Although you won't be disappointed at either, both will yield two different vacations. Here are some things to consider:

    • If your family values time outside your room, you'll find much to do at both. At the fort, you can sit out on the deck of your cabin and let the kids explore or if you're at the Boardwalk, there's plenty of action on the Boardwalk. From Chip 'n' Dale Campfire Sing-a-long at the fort to the magicians and entertainers on the Boardwalk, you don't actually have to pay for all activities. Neither have outstanding pools, in my opinion, though.
    • As for room size, you'll certainly have more with a cabin that gives you the ability to tuck the kids in at night while you visit in living/dining area. You can keep your vacation costs low by utilizing the full kitchen of the cabin, too. Conversely, the Boardwalk puts you within an easy walk of numerous restaurants from nearby Beaches 'n' Cream to upscale Flying Fish not to mention all of the restaurants of Epcot's World Showcase.
    • What you give up in room size compared to a cabin, you gain in proximity to the parks at the Boardwalk. You can walk to Epcot and are a boat-ride away from Disney's Hollywood Studios. If you need a break from the parks in the afternoon, it seems more feasible with a room at the Boardwalk.

As you can see it's almost a toss up, but when asked, my teenage son said for me to recommend Boardwalk. So, he gives it the edge. Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
