We are bringing my son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in November for their first family Disney trip. My husband and I have extra magic bands (used during previous trips/rundisney adventures). Can we transfer these bands to them? if so, how?

Hey there, Becky, and welcome to planDisney! Thanks so much for stopping by the panel with your question. November is just around the corner, so your family will be entering The Walt Disney World “bubble” before you know it!

Becky, once a MagicBand has been linked to a Disney account it cannot be transferred to another person.  A guest can purchase as many MagicBands as they’d like, but once it has been assigned to that Guest’s account it can only belong to them. So you would not be able to transfer old MagicBands to your family members. You can check your My Disney Experience account to view the available options for pre-arrival discounts on MagicBands that your son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter can use. As a self-proclaimed MagicBand aficionado, I purchase a new MagicBand for every trip! Of course, I could use my old ones again and again, but picking a new one is part of how I reward myself for doing most of the heavy-lifting planning for our family trips!

Thankfully, Walt Disney World has a few more options to access your resort room, park tickets, and resort entitlements that don’t require the use of a MagicBand at all and are absolutely free! Using a combination of Disney’s MagicMobile Service and the My Disney Experience mobile app, Disney has basically found a way to put your MagicBand into your smart device! All you need to create a MagicMobile Pass is a smartphone and the MyDisneyExperience app.  It’s that simple!

And if you are staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel and prefer a low-tech option, you can visit the resort front desk and request that each member of your party’s Theme Park tickets also be connected to your resort room key.  I always do this, even when using MagicBands, as a backup.  You can use your MagicBands, Disney MagicMobile Pass, and room key interchangeably throughout the resort!  If you are staying at an off-property resort, you can request a physical Theme Park ticket card at Guest Relations at any of the Theme Parks or at Disney Springs.

And before you leave for sunny Florida, Becky, make sure to take advantage of the My Disney Experience Family & Friends List! The Family & Friends list will allow you and your family to coordinate plans like Genie+ attraction reservations, dining reservations, Disney PhotoPass images, and much more! You can manage your Family & Friends List from your My Disney Experience Account or the mobile app.

I hope this helps, Becky!  If you have more questions while planning your Disney Vacation, stop back by and let me know!

You’ve got a friend in me,
