Bringing my 5 kids to Disney World in January from Canada. We plan on visiting magic kingdom. What are the must do for kids aged 5-13? When would be the best time to buy tickets? Any suggestions for walking in the park with a child with mobility issues?

    Hi Monique,

Greetings from a fellow mama of five! I'm super excited to hear that you and all of your Mouseketeers will be visiting Magic Kingdom park soon. It's my very favorite of the theme parks, and I just know that you and your family are going to have a BLAST!

You'll find something for everyone at Magic Kingdom park. If you have some thrill-seekers in your party, you'll definitely want to conquer the mountains...Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, that is. Of course, Fantasyland has lots of fun for kids of ALL ages, and with classic attractions like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, "it's a small world", Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and Peter Pan's Flight, you'll love enjoying the same Disney magic that Guests have been loving for decades! Other must-do attractions include Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and Haunted Mansion. Don't forget about all of the character meeting opportunities and shows, too. Two of my very favorite parts of our Magic Kingdom days, though, are the Festival of Fantasy Parade and Happily Ever After fireworks show. Having my whole family there together experiencing the magic and awe makes my mama heart super happy. When you add in hunting for Hidden Mickeys, eating all the delicious snacks, and collecting Disney PhotoPass photos, your day will be practically perfect in every way!

As far as purchasing tickets, please feel free to do so whenever, but I'd definitely suggest buying them far enough in advance that you can have them linked to your My Disney Experience account in time for making FastPass+ plans as soon as your window opens. If you're staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you'll be able to make your FastPass+ selections 60 days in advance for the entire length of your stay, and if you're staying elsewhere, you'll be able to make your choices 30 days in advance, one day at a time.

For your little one with mobility issues, I'd encourage you to check out all of the fantastic resources available for Guests with disabilities, including wheelchair rental if that would be helpful. I have a kiddo with autism, and we've always found the Cast Members to be a blessing, so please don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you need it!

Thanks so much for bringing your great questions to us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Monique, and please come see us again if we can help with anything else as you're planning your trip. I hope that you and your entire family have a truly magical vacation!
