I am bringing the husband for a surprise trip for his 55th birthday in January & staying at the Poly. His dream! Lots of activities - no kids :) Lots of behind scenes tours. How should we pack for time of year, etc?

    Hi Linda:

This sounds like a wonderful adult trip. January is a great time to visit Walt Disney World. The weather typically is high 70s to low 80s. I was at Disney World four years ago during the first week of January when it was unseasonably cold, dipping into the 30s. However, when I was at Disney World five years ago in early January, the weather was in the normal 70s and 80s. So it's always a good idea to dress in layers in case the weather changes unexpectedly. So don't over-pack, but I would make certain you have shorts, jeans, and a sweatshirt or jacket. Here are some more general tips for packing:

    • Comfortable shoes. The number one tip - bar none. There is so much walking and activity at Disney World that you don't want to be in anything but comfortable shoes.
    • Sunscreen. You don't want to ruin your stay by getting a sunburn.
    • Rain Poncho. The weather in Florida can be interesting. It can rain suddenly and heavily for an hour or two and then clear up the rest of the day. I would be prepared to have your ponchos ready for any unexpected storm. While you can purchase a poncho on property, they are usually cheaper when bought at home and are easy to transport
    • A small backpack, purse, or tote
    • Sunglasses
    • Bathing suits
    • Identification
    • An extra bag to transport your souvenirs home

    Enjoy your vacation.
