Bringing my daugther's BBF (16yrs old)with us on cruise....when paying for cruise one consultant said I needed a form authorizing that she be released in my care but another one told me no I didn't need anything....who is right?

    Hi, Dahlia!

As a part of your cruise documentation, you will need to have a completed and signed Minors Authorization Form. This form must be completed for minors under age 18 traveling without their parent or legal guardian.  A copy of the form will be in the booklet which will be delivered to your home, or you can print a copy of the form from online check-in on the Planning Center. You will need to bring it with you to the port terminal when you check in.  In addition, you may need to carry a copy of this document with you when you visit ports of call.

As a precaution, I would also suggest to get a copy of the child's insurance information and a signed statement from her parents giving you permission to authorize medical treatment in the case of an emergency. Lastly, I would make sure she has a valid passport just in case an emergency happens at a port. (Can you tell I have a lawyer in my family?)

Best wishes as you prepare and plan for your cruise, and although it may seem like a lot, I'm sure that as a mom you would rather be prepared than caught off guard -- especially with a child other than your own. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
