Hello! I get to bring my sis, bro, niece & nephew for the first time to WDW! My nephew is 5 & pretty short, can you explain how ride swap will work for us? Can the person waiting have a buddy?

Welcome back to planDisney, Tasia. I am so excited for you! Seeing the magic through the eyes of first-time guests is one of my absolute favorite things to do. You are about to become the official “First-Time Memory Maker” for your family, and that is such a magical title to hold.

Rider Switch is going to be your best friend on attractions that your nephew isn’t quite tall enough to enjoy just yet. When you arrive at an attraction that offers Rider Switch, have your entire group approach the Cast Member at the entrance and let them know you’d like to use it. Your group will be split into two riding parties. “Party A” will enter the queue first and enjoy the attraction. “Party B” (which can include up to two Guests who plan to ride second) will stay back with your nephew. The Cast Member will scan the tickets of Party B, let them know where to return, and then, when it’s their turn, Party B can come back and board without waiting in the standard queue.

Now here’s where your planning game gets even more powerful. The Rider Switch page on the official Walt Disney World website includes a complete list of all attractions that currently offer Rider Switch. It’s a fantastic resource to browse ahead of time so you can know exactly where this feature will help your family most.

And because you’re traveling with a little Mouseketeer, I highly recommend checking out the Attractions page on the Walt Disney World Resort website, too. It has super helpful filters where you can sort by height requirement, age, thrill level, and even the type of experience. It’s a really user-friendly tool that will help you gauge which attractions will need that extra time for Rider Switch, which ones might be best to skip, and which ones you know the entire family will be able to enjoy together. Yay for core memories!

I hope this helps you feel confident, excited, and ready to take on those magical park days with your family. Please come back and visit us anytime here at planDisney if you need more planning tips, budget strategies, or ideas for extra sprinkle-of-magic add-ons. We can’t wait for all the smiles, giggles, and first-time joy waiting for you at the Walt Disney World Resort!

    See ya real soon! ~Emille
