Ahoy there, Rick and welcome to planDisney!
As one of the Panel's seasoned sailors, I've definitely personally witnessed guests coming on board with their share of special beverages to enjoy privately over the course of the sailing. But before you embark on your voyage you might want to double-check the
official alcohol policy in place for guests:
- As long as you are over 21 years of age, you can personally bring up to two unopened bottles of wine or champagne as long as they are in your carry-on luggage. These are meant to be consumed in the privacy of your Stateroom and certainly not on deck or in public areas, however you may have the possibility of paying a corkage fee for each bottle that you intend on bringing to dinner.
- If discovered in your checked luggage, any alcohol is confiscated by security and not returned to guests. The exception may be whenever you decide to purchase any additional bottles while in port, in which case ship security will tag it and note your Stateroom Number for these purchases to be returned to you as you disembark.
Note that like the changing tides, onboard policies are subject to change and availability. If you can believe it, there was a time when guests used to fill their carry-on bags with as many bottles as they could in a way that would make many a Pirate of the Caribbean like Captain Jack Sparrow proud! I recommend that you keep your ear to the wind and your eye on the horizon should this change once more in the future. (For example, the age requirement is slightly lower when sailing
round-trip itineraries out of Australia.)
And speaking of pirates, whether you chose to stash your bottles in your carry-on and avoid smuggling in any fermented libations in checked bags, you can surely enjoy
the sights and sounds of Pirate Night. There's really nothing like sailing the open seas and hearing the burst of fireworks in the air coming from your own vessel.
Wishing you the best on your upcoming journey!
