Hi Brigitta. Noticed you are from B.C. (nice to have Canadian mom). ? is, do I need to have money on hand to visit parks or does everywhere take debit (interac) from a Canadian bank? If I decide on cash do i exchange currency here or in Florida? Thanx

    Hi,

I know that a lot of people don't like to carry cash around with them, especially when on vacation but I always convert my Canadian money into U.S. Funds (usually enough to cover incidentals such as gratuities, souvenirs, snack foods and other miscellaneous items such as these).  I like to carry cash on me instead of charging everything onto my Credit Card and/or Debit Card as well as always having to stop at ATM Machines (there are a wide variety of Banks and ATM machines located throughout Walt Disney World....so they are not hard to find but I still consider it an inconvenience for me).  I lock up my cash in my Resort Room Safe and only carry what I think I will need for every day of my trip and if I want to spend more than what I have on me, then I will either charge it onto my "Key To The World Card" or Credit Card.  I do receive a very good exchange rate with my bank (The Bank of Montreal), so I always exchange my currency in Canada and not in the U.S.  I have found that they normally charge approximately 2% more when you are using a bank in the States for currency exchange.  If you are not happy carrying cash around, I would advise you to at least have a little on you to carry you through the first couple of days for emergency purposes only, just so you don't get stuck anywhere.

My advice to you would be to check with your personal bank on what they would suggest you do.  They are familiar with your bank account (type, chequing, savings, etc..) and I would trust them to give you the best suggestion on getting you the best value for your money.  I have traveled to many different destinations and I can tell you that my Debit card has been accepted in the States and Europe (anywhere they accept Interact, Cirrus and Maestro...look on the back of your card), but again I would definitely check first with your bank.  I hope this helps!

    Best wishes,
    Brigitta
