Breast cancer survivor. Hubby and 8yr old daughter first real family vac. Have the finances and health in order. Need to make this VERY memorable. Where do you suggest we stay? Want a very nice resort with lots to awe 8 yr old. Help?

    Julie:

First of all, congratulations on your prognosis! As a breast cancer survivor myself, I understand how important it is to create a trip that is memorable for your daughter who has been through a lot with you. If I were in your shoes and finances were not an issue but creating a memory was, I'd recommend:

    1. The Contemporary: Nothing will awe an 8-year-old like seeing the monorail race through your hotel! Best of all, with a theme-park room, you can watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom nightly. Make sure you dine at Chef Mickey's for its expansive buffet of endless pastries that will impress the sweet tooth of any youngster or eat atop the hotel's top floor in California Grill so you can enjoy the skyline. Best of all with this resort, you are within an easy distance of the Magic Kingdom and Epcot by monorail so both of you can take a nap and keep your stamina up for the parks at night.

    2. Beach Club: If your daughter enjoys pool time, this is your pick. Its nightly views of the lights of the Boardwalk add extra magic along with the 9 p.m. showing of Illuminations over in Epcot. You can take the boat from it to Disney's Hollywood Studios or simply walk to the back of Epcot, making it another good choice for your stamina. Make a reservation at Beaches & Cream to enjoy a unique ice cream treat or at Cape May for its Character Breakfast with Minnie in her beach attire!

    3. Animal Kingdom Lodge: Is your daughter an animal lover? A Savannah View room allows you to watch the safari animals right from your balcony. Although this is my third choice because it is not within walking distance of a park, if your family loves a trip to the zoo, this may be the resort for you.

Wishing y'all a magical vacation! And congratulations, again, on your recovery!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
