My boyfriend and I are driving in on the 27th to stay in a Disney Resort 27th - 1st. We cannot check in to our room until later in the afternoon. Can we ride the bus to Magic Kingdom even though we will not be checked in yet? Do we have to have room key?

Hello, Shelby. Thanks for stopping at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

My family and I typically drive to Walt Disney World. It's only about an 8-hour drive so we like to wake up super early and be able to enjoy a full fun day. I think you'll be happy to know that at the stroke of midnight, kind of like Cinderella, on your check-in day you can take full advantage of all the great benefits being an on property Guest. A few days before your trip, I suggest checking in online using your My Disney Experience account. Doing this will let the resort know what time you plan on arriving which helps them better prepare for you. As soon as you park your car, you are free to hop on the complimentary bus service to any of the Walt Disney World Theme Parks, Water Parks and Disney Springs. As an on property Guest, you can even take advantage of Extra Magic Hours on your check-in day, even if your room isn't ready. The cool part about using the online check-in system is that you can opt-in to receive a text message letting you know when your room is ready. You'll be able to bypass the front desk all together. You can open your door, when your room is ready, either using your MagicBand or the My Disney Experience mobile app. Pretty cool, right? If you're in the mood for a more relaxing morning, you can also lounge by the pool at the resort you'll be staying at until your room is ready. This is one of my family's favorite ways to start our vacation. Mickey waffles and pool time!

I hope this helps you plan your first day a little bit better. If you have any other questions, I'd love for you to come back and ask me. Enjoy your vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
