If I bought a mug in like January then came back later in that year in like August or so, would I be able to use that same mug or should I get another one? Do the resort cast members pay attention to the mugs that guests use?

    Hello, Amanda!

Your refillable souvenir mugs are geared toward use during your current stay.  Therefore, you should really buy a new one for each trip to the resort.

This year, actually, Walt Disney World is rolling out "smart mugs," which are embedded with a smart chip which will enable your mug to be refilled during  your current vacation.  This is similar to what Disney has had for years at Blizzard Beach, where a UPC enabled you to refill your mug at various locations.

I've noticed that different resorts pay particular attention to the mug you choose to refill at the beverage stations.  Lots of sites have had some chatter about whether or not it's okay to refill an old mug, too.  To be honest?  When I bring my students to Walt Disney World every Spring, I ALWAYS purchase a new mug.  I like to show them that the right thing to do is to buy a mug; it's a great deal even for our week there, so I don't try to sneak an additional trip in on this deal.

For the reasonable cost of the mug, considering the use you'll have for it in years to come, once you're home...and wishing that you were back in WDW...it's worth it! :-)

    Enjoy your upcoming trip!
