I bought my 3 Grandkids quite a few trading pins off ebay for their birthdays this year (oops, got carried away :) ). Most of them are still on the felt MM card, will they be able to trade them with a cast member even though not bought at the parks.

Hi Nan, Absolutely!! I would suggest purchasing a lanyard once your arrive, at either the hotel gift shop or right inside the park.  Take the pins and place them on the lanyard, you don't need the felt backing to trade.  The cast members have lanyards too, or they have a felt square attached to their belt loop.  If the cast member has a green felt background with pins on it, it simply means they can only trade with children and not adults.  The lanyards range in price but are less than $10.00.  I also have learned the importance of extra rubber backings. They sometimes fall off, or the hole has gotten too wide from over use.  Just make a new one with the pin back. The stores also sell a pack of pin backs if you should need them.  That's a great way to start the trading process!!!
