Hiya, Mary!
Welcome back to planDisney! I'm excited to hEAR you're planning a trip to The Most Magical Place on Earth! There's so much to look forward to in 2022, like the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind this summer. Now is the perfect time to fly off to Neverland on a magical vacation!
Thank you for this excellent question. As with any new technology, it can be a bit daunting to learn the ins-and-outs of a system like
Disney Genie+ service. After all, it has only been around for a few months now, and it seems like everyone is in the same boat with trying to understand how best to use it. No worries! I've had the opportunity to use Disney Genie+ service several times times since its inception and feel like I know enough to share some basics with you.
Disney Genie+
Lightning Lane selections essentially save your place in line at an attraction, so you can go and experience other park offerings while you wait for your arrival window to be called. It lets you pick the next available arrival window for a Lightning Lane entrance at more than 40 attractions and experiences across all four theme parks. You can purchase Disney Genie+ service each morning via the Tip Board in your
My Disney Experience App starting at 12:00 a.m. midnight on the morning of use. I recommend purchasing it before 6:00 a.m. to account for any technical glitches that may arise.
You can make your first Genie+ Lightning Lane selection starting at 7:00 a.m. Some selections sell out quickly, so be ready to make your first selection at 7:00 a.m. on the dot. To make your selection, simply access your Tip Board in the My Disney Experience App and scroll through the list of available attractions and experiences. Each option will display the arrival window of time that is currently being offered. When you see the one you want, simply click "Book Experience" and follow the prompts to complete your booking. You'll be able to select anyone in your party with valid Disney Genie+ service for the day that plans on utilizing the Lightning Lane entrance during this process, so make sure you have first followed the steps to connect with them in My Disney Experience (they should show up on your
Family & Friends list).
You can continue to make Genie+ Lighting Lane selections every two hours or after you've used your first Lightning Lane selection, whichever comes first. Keep in mind, if you book your first selection at 7:00 a.m., you won't be able to book your next Genie+ Lightning Lane selection until two hours after the park opening time for that day. So, if a park opens at 9:00 a.m., you can start making additional selections at 11:00 a.m. and continue to do so until park close. If you book a Genie+ Lightning Lane selection for later in the day, say 4:00 p.m., you can still make additional Lightning Lane selections every two hours. If you get a little confused on the timing of when you can book another selection, your Tip Board will be able to tell you when you're eligible to make another Lightning Lane selection (just try to click "Book Experience" on another attraction, and it will tell you).
Mary, I hope this provided some clarity. If you have further questions, please stop back by planDisney. We'd be happy to help.
Happy planning,
Alyssa
