I bought the DCL cruise insurance, is there a penalty to change my sail date

    Hello, Tina,

I sure hope things are going as well as can be for you and that you can still enjoy your Disney cruise as planned. But when life gives you lemons, the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan may be useful for making the best of a difficult situation and, hopefully, recover that magical vacation opportunity.

The Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan (travel insurance) is effective beginning when the final payment is made. In most cases, modifications to a Disney Cruise Line reservation that are made before the paid-in-full date (usually either 90 days or 120 days before sailing, depending on the length of the cruise and stateroom type) may be made without invoking the Vacation Protection Plan. However, if a reservation modification results in a fare difference, the corresponding rate for the Vacation Protection Plan may also change.

If a cruise must be modified after the paid-in-full date, it's basically like cancelling the cruise and booking a new cruise at the prevailing rates at that time. Cruise cancellation fees may apply according to the Disney Cruise Line terms and conditions. Depending on the circumstances and timing, a claim may be filed with the insurance administrator. If you need to cancel or reschedule a cruise after paying in full, it's important to call Disney Cruise Line directly. Or if your reservation was booked through a travel agent, contact them instead. The Cast Members will provide guidance specific to your reservation contract and help get things sorted as best as possible. If a cancellation is necessary due to a covered reason, the Vacation Protection Plan administrator will handle the claim and provide approved compensation. If a cruise must be cancelled for a reason that is not covered, a claim must be filed with the insurance administrator before applying any available "cancel for any reason" cruise credit benefits through the Disney Cruise Line.

Again, I hope you can experience the magic of your Disney cruise as intended. If you have more questions about your specific reservation contract terms and conditions or Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan benefits, the Disney Cruise Line representatives on the phone line will be happy to help provide information and support. If you have other planning questions about your upcoming cruise, we are happy to help you here at planDisney.

May you have a wonderful cruise, Tina!
