I bought a 2 day pass for my family and have never been to Disney in Florida. My youngest is 5 - do we all need the magic bands or just the tickets we've bought? If we need the magic bands where/how do we get them and are they free?

    Hi Amy,

I see that your very first visit to "The Most Magical Place on Earth" is just a couple short months away! I hope that you're counting down the days because it won't be long until all of your Disney dreams are coming true! You and your family are going to have a BLAST, and I'm so excited for you!

MagicBands are not required. While they're a fun way to express your Disney style and they make visiting the theme parks easy peasy, a theme park ticket in plastic card form will do everything you need it to do. You'll scan your card or MagicBand to enter the theme parks and hop in FastPass+ lines, so having access right on everyone's wrist makes everything hassle free. As a mama to five Mouseketeers, I LOVE MagicBands because I don't have to dig around in a wallet, purse, pocket, or backpack to find our tickets each time we hop in a FastPass+ queue. You'll also be able to link any Disney PhotoPass photos to your My Disney Experience account through your MagicBand or card, and if you're staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you may use your MagicBand to access your room as well as charge purchases back to your room.

Each Guest will need their own MagicBand or card, and the great news is that all Disney Resort hotel Guests do receive complimentary MagicBands! If you're staying right in the middle of the magic, you'll simply want to log in to your account and personalize them in advance. If you're staying elsewhere and you'd like to purchase MagicBands, you may do so online or at a number of retail stores once you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort. After you purchase them, all you'll need to do is link the MagicBand ID numbers to your My Disney Experience account, and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, you'll be all set to enjoy the magic and fun.

Thanks so much for visiting us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Amy, and please let us know if you have any other questions as you're planning your trip. I hope that you and your family have a truly magical vacation!
