Ahoy there, Carla! Thanks for sailing my way here at planDisney!
Ah, the souvenir beer mug. One of my favorite keepsakes from my years of cruising, and one that still gets used shoreside, unlike some of the other souvenirs we've come back with over the years! I love the fact that it's a very STOUT, glass mug, and while on the ship, there is no shortage of places like
lounges and nightclubs to get a refill of nice cold beer. There's something very cool about walking into a space like
Keg &Compass,
French Quarter Lounge,
Crown & Fin Pub, or any of the other great adults-only areas and trying out what's on tap!
The flip side of that equation, of course, is how heavy the mugs are!
I sailed on over to double-check with a crew member and was able to confirm that the beer mug is intended to be refilled only for the duration of your sailing, so I can't recommend bringing one from a previous cruise.
Strictly speaking, like souvenir popcorn buckets, the beer mugs are actually such a good deal that the effort it would take to safely get the mug back aboard is more trouble than it's worth. That's valuable packing space that could be saved for other souvenirs or Pirate Night costumes! I did some back-of-the-cocktail-napkin math the last time we purchased one and realized I still came out ahead having purchased a new one, plus I was able to add it to my collection! Now when it's been too long since our last cruise, we can bust out the mugs at home, turn the heat up in the house to 80-something degrees and pretend we're back aboard our favorite ships with an ice-cold beer.
While I wish I had better news for you, Carla, I hope that at least sets a clear heading as you continue planning for your next Disney Cruise Line vacation! Thank you so much for your question, and if you have any others, please drop us another line here at planDisney!
Fair winds, following seas, and full glasses to you!
Andrew
