Hi again, Rose! I'm so glad to welcome you back to planDisney!
The ability to borrow, bank, and transfer Vacation Points is a key part of what makes Disney Vacation Club so special –– these tools give you the flexibility to create the magical vacation experience that works best for you, year after year. You can bank Points to save up for a special trip, borrow them from your upcoming Use Year to add an extra night to your stay, or even transfer them to share with another Disney Vacation Club friend or family member. Let me share a little bit about how the Points-borrowing process works so you'll have this handy tool in your pocket and ready to use for an upcoming DVC adventure.
When you
borrow Vacation Points, you're dipping into your allotment of Points from next Use Year to use for a stay this year. This is a great way to get a few extra Points for a reservation and it can even be combined with banking to create a large Points pool for an extra-special stay. My family used this technique a few years ago when we celebrated my parents' 50th wedding anniversary at Walt Disney World resort –– by using banked Points from our previous Use Year and borrowing Points from another, we were able to spend the week together in two Bungalows at
Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. It was an amazing experience I'll never forget!
While there hasn't been a restriction on the number of Vacation Points you can borrow in the past, currently,
Members may only borrow up to 50% of their allotted Points from the upcoming Use Year. This temporary rule change went into effect in April 2020 to offset availability issues from the ongoing pandemic situation. There hasn't been any word yet about when this limit might be removed, but as restrictions continue to ease, I'm hopeful that a change to the Points-borrowing rules might be coming soon. Be sure to keep checking the Disney Vacation Club website for any updates about this temporary policy change.
Thanks for bringing another question to planDisney, Rose. If more Disney Vacation Club questions pop into your head, or if I can help with any other part of the planning process for an upcoming Walt Disney World Resort visit, I hope you'll visit again!
See Ya Real Soon,
Amy
