I am booking our 1st WDW family vacation for me, hubby, 12 yr boy & 6 yr girl 8/21/12-8/28/12. Historically does WDW offer free dining plans for this time frame? when do they normally release it if they do? Should I hold off on booking for now? Thanks!

    Hi Amber,

I'm so excited to hear about your plans for your first!! family vacation to WDW!

And I have good news for you, historically free dining has become available for the last half of August. It's generally a good time to take the kids as many of the students in the south have already returned to classes. My son returns in early August, for example.

It looks as if Free Dining was released  in past years between March and May for end of August travel dates.

    Here's what I would do -

Book a room only reservation now so that you don't have to pick an alternate resort should your first choice become unavailable. Then, if Free Dining is offered, call and have your reservation modified to a package that included the Free Dining. You'll have no worries about getting the resort of your choice and you'll still be able to take advantage of any discounts including Free Dining!

To book a room only reservation, you only need to put a deposit of one night's room rate plus tax. Then, you can sit back and watch for deals!
