I have a booking for 4 (2 x adults, 2 x children) in January. My son died of cancer in 2021 and because of Covid/ him only being in treatment 3 months we never managed to do any special trips. Is there anything we can arrange to make this trip extra?

    Bonjour!

Welcome to planDisney, Sarah! Thank you for trusting us with your question about your upcoming trip to Disneyland Paris in January. First, please accept my heartfelt condolences for what must have been, and continues to be, an incredibly difficult time. It looks like you are travelling a long way to experience my favourite holiday destination in Europe, so let’s look at some meaningful ideas to help make this a special trip.

The reason I return to Disney Destinations time and time again is because they allow me to spend quality time with my family. It’s a break from reality, with no chores and beauty everywhere you look. In my opinion, that alone will give you precious moments to create memories that last a lifetime as you navigate your new normal.

A lovely way to commemorate the trip and include your late son in your memories could be to visit the Disney Style store in Disney Village. Here, you can have a personalised Disneyland Paris name plaque made with your son’s name. It takes about 15 minutes to make, and you could hold it in family photos as you explore the Disney Parks, ensuring he is part of your holiday memories for years to come.

Another idea is to visit the silhouette artist on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland Park. They can create a framed cut-out of your children’s silhouettes arranged together, and if you have a photo of your son’s side profile, they may be able to include him as well. You can even have it framed in the shape of Mickey Mouse – which does make me wonder why all frames aren’t Mickey Mouse-shaped!

If you would like to make the trip feel extra special, and you have booked a Hotel + Ticket Package, you might consider upgrading your stay to a Disney Hotel closer to the parks or even a club-level room at Disney Sequoia Lodge, Disney Newport Bay Club, Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, or the Disneyland Hotel.

Sarah, I hope this helps with your plans and brings some inspiration for creating moments that honour your son and your family. I am certain he is with you every day in spirit, and that will be no different when you are enjoying your time at Disneyland Paris. If you have any other questions as you plan, please reach out to me. I'd love to help any way I can.

See you on Main Street, Paris!
    Matt
