I booked my WDW vacation in November 2014 and then was diagnosed with a rare nervous system disorder in December!! I am in the process of working to get into remission. If I can reach remission, I want to celebrate at WDW. How could I do that?

    Jessica:

First, let me extend to you my encouragement for your recovery. Having made it through Stage 2 Breast Cancer, I can tell you that making it to the other side of your treatment is well worth a trip to Disney World to celebrate. Best of all, there's so much from which to choose. Here's a few options to think about:

    • Special Dining: Whether you're looking for a dinner show that can bring much-needed laughter like the Hoop Dee Doo Revue or you'd simply like to experience the majestic views of California Grill or Narcoossee's, there are many restaurants that offer unique settings and experiences to celebrate.
    • A Disney Race: I've run three races at Disney before my treatment, and I can tell you the feeling of accomplishment is overwhelming. I'm about to run my first 5K since chemo and am anxious to return to run another Disney race. Having many groups cheering you along the sidelines can be a real boost but the training involved to get there may be helpful after your treatments. Talk to your doctor first, though, before setting such a goal.
    • Fireworks Cruise: I've splurged on three private cruises and one Pirates & Pals cruises for my family. Nothing tops off a celebratory trip like a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the water.
    • For more ideas, visit Disney's Custom Celebrations site. There, you'll find many more ideas for every budget.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
