Hi! I just booked our 2nd trip to WDW for Oct '12 and we're staying at POR. My children are 6 & 8. I was wondering if we were able to go to a different WDW resort to enjoy their beach? Also do you know if there are standard rooms in the mansions?

    Hi Caren,

You most certainly can enjoy the beaches at other Disney resorts.  In my opinion, half the fun of a Walt DIsney World vacation is visiting the many, extraordinarily themed Disney resorts.  I particularly enjoy visiting the beaches at Disney's Polynesian Resort and Disney's Beach Club Resort.  From these beaches, you can view Wishes and Illuminations, respectively, at night.  Keep in mind, however, that while you can enjoy the sand and sun at these beaches, these are not beaches for swimmers.  Also keep in mind that guests are only allowed to use the pools at their home resort.  While it is ok to enjoy the beach at other Disney resorts, the pools are for the exclusive use of guests staying at that resort.

As for the second part of your question, yes, there are standard rooms in the mansions at your resort.  With regard to room assignments at Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside, you will increase the likelihood of being assigned a standard room in the mansions if you add a request to your reservation stating that you'd like to be placed in the Magnolia Bend region of the resort.  While room requests are not guaranteed, the Cast Member who assigns rooms at this resort will make every attempt to meet your request.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll be assigned to a lovely standard room in Magnolia Bend.

Best wishes for a magical vacation!
