Hiya, Eric! Welcome, and thank you for the sacrifices you've made and the support you've given to be a military dad.
What an amazing opportunity you're getting to have this time at
Walt Disney World with your son. It's so hard to coordinate schedules with grown children to have special chances like this. And visiting
Disney's Wilderness Lodge in the fall, with the roaring fireplace and rustic elegance is just perfect.
There are some pretty great
discounts for Active Duty Military, Retired (with 20+ years of service) Veterans, and 100% Service Connected Disabled Veterans at
Disney Resorts Collection hotels. If your son falls into one of those categories, he may be eligible for the resort discounts. He will, however, need to present a valid military ID card when he checks in at the resort.
He can apply for an up-to-date military ID card through the va.gov website. He'll need his DD-214, a valid government-issued ID (like his driver's license), and a passport-type photo, which will all be uploaded with the VIC application.
In my experience, it takes a few weeks to get the ID card mailed to you, although if he can snag an appointment on your local military base, they'll hand the card to you before you leave the appointment. Checking my local base, there's about a month wait to get an appointment, although some bases also take walk-ins.
I hope you get to have a magical, memorable vacation with your son, Eric.
Anna
