We booked our trip in October - bought tickets to the Not-So-Scary party/parade for Monday night...does that mean we HAVE to spend the DAY of the parade in the Magic Kingdom (did not get a park hopper pass), or can we go to any park that day?

Great news Melanie!  You should definitely visit another park on the day of your Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.  Head to a park of your choice in the morning and then try to get in a few hours of rest back at your resort before you head to the Magic Kingdom for the party that night.  Be sure to see the parade and the fireworks but also try to fit in some of the great attractions as the lines during the special event parties tend to be shorter. The added fun of experiencing some of the rides such as Thunder Mountain at night is worth the time and effort!
