I just booked our trip for March 2024. Will I be notified when it is time to select magic bands or do I have to go ahead and order them now? It has been several years since we went and we no longer have the ones we wore last trip.

Welcome to planDisney, Julie! I'm so excited for you to return to the Walt Disney World Resort. I had a smile from ear to ear reading your question.

So, you're going to really be able to tell that I'm a teacher because I'm going to give you some homework. But you don't need to sigh and groan like some of my students think they do quietly but forget that teachers have supersonic hearing. It's a really fun assignment. I always hype myself up for a Disney vacation by watching some of my favorite movies, and Julie, I have a great one for you: dash to the movie theater and watch Disney's Wish. It's beautifully animated, the songs are wonderful, and the best part is that there are so many fun nods to 100 years of Disney magic throughout. It's bound to inspire you to make a wish, hold it in your heart, and have it all come true at the resort in February!

Now, onto your question. You will likely not get notified when it's time to order your MagicBands because, well, you can order them right now through your My Disney Experience account! Once your vacation package (Disney Resorts Collection Hotel room and theme park tickets purchased together) is booked, you can usually pre-order your MagicBands at a discount at any point 11 or more days before your arrival date. This ensures that they'll be shipped to your home in time. If you pre-order them 6-10 days before your arrival date, they will be shipped to your Disney Resorts Collection Hotel and be waiting for you at the Front Desk at check-in. You will not be able to order them in advance less than 6 days before your arrival date.

So, Julie, log in to your My Disney Experience account and click on "My MagicBands and Cards" under the My Disney Experience menu when you are ready. There will usually be some great options for both standard MagicBands as well as MagicBand+. The selection does change from time to time so if nothing speaks to you or one of the members of your travel party, check back at a later date, always being mindful of the deadlines. There are also options at many of the merchandise locations at the resort as well as on shopDisney. Just keep in mind that these will not be eligible for a discount.

You may be asking yourself, "What's the difference between a standard MagicBand and a MagicBand+?" Both of these versions will allow you to tap into the parks, charge items back to your Disney Resorts Collection Hotel room, open your hotel room door, and allow you to redeem any Lightning Lanes you may have reserved. However, a MagicBand+ will also interact with nighttime spectaculars and the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection Statues around the resort, while also interacting with select rides and experiences. Just keep in mind that a MagicBand+ needs to be charged to use these interactive features so just ensure you are charging them each night so they are fresh and ready to go for a day in the parks the next morning!

Julie, there is so much new to explore at the resort. You are bound to have a wonderful time. If you have any other questions, please reach out to me directly. And if Asha is still visiting EPCOT when you are there, be sure to say hi and tell her your wish.

You're never too old to make a wish upon a star,
    Matt
