Hi, I have just booked a trip June 21-28,2018 and have just learned that the world of dance competition will be going on at the same time, how will this affect crowds?

Greetings, Jennifer, and thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel again! I’m glad you’re hEAR planning your vacation! I’ve been to Walt Disney World during many times of the year, and run up against many large groups present for summer travel, education, conferences and more.

I adore Undercover Tourist’s crowd calendar for it’s ability to judge the crowds based on historic levels, announced conferences and more. I’ve found it to be extremely helpful in deciding which parks to attend on any given day as well as to estimate seasonal attendance. When very large competition groups are present, yes, the parks will be more crowded. Your best bet is to attend the parks early in the morning and across the early afternoon, as many of the conferences and competition groups will be occupied with their activities until the late afternoon. I find that those groups tend to enjoy the parks more in the evening, unless it’s a spring break trip, when they are “out and about” at all times of the day.

I also plan my FastPass+ reservations and show up to the parks early. This means a lesser crowd during the early hours, especially when my family is staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel and can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours. If I can give you any more insight to your trip or help you, please let me know! ~ Lindsey P.
