We have booked a sleigh ride for our December trip. We are dining at Whispering Canyon @ 6 and sleigh ride is @ 8 at FW Campgrounds. What are our transportation options? Have we allowed enough time to enjoy dinner and get to the sleigh ride? Thanks!!

    Keri:

If all of the stars align, you just might make it, but honestly, I'm a little nervous.

Here's why: You can usually count on a table service meal at Disney taking 1 1/2 hours from the time you arrive to when you leave. And, although the ferry ride from Wilderness Lodge, where Whispering Canyon is located, to Fort Wilderness is only 10 minutes, you need to allow yourself at least 30 in case you miss the ferry....and we haven't built in the time it will take you to walk from the restaurant to the ferry and from the ferry to the stables....leaving us no wiggle room.

If I were in your shoes, I'd arrive for dinner around 5:15 p.m. and let the host know you are trying to make a sleigh ride at the fort and see if you can be seated earlier. In addition, let your waiter know the same and make sure to remind him/her of the ticket before you get to a point in the meal where you're just sitting around waiting for it. This should tighten up your dining time to allow you some breathing room for your transfer to the fort.

Although you could take a bus to the fort from the lodge, the ferry will drop you off near the stables, the opposite end of the resort's bus Outpost and save you a transfer and second bus ride. Once at the fort's pier, you'll be about 100 yards from the stables behind Pioneer Hall, the location for the sleigh ride. Enjoy the campsite decorations on your sleigh ride, and bring a stadium blanket (it can get nippy)!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
