Just booked second trip to WDW w/6 &4 yr. olds. Booked CBR again b/c we loved the pool area, (esp.the separate pirate ship) but we're wondering if we should try another moderate. Any suggestions? Coming 8/24-8/31. Can't wait to visit again:)

    Diana:

I usually recommend Caribbean Beach Resort during the hot months (well, in Florida should we say 'hotter'?), like August when you're visiting, because of the well-themed pool area and pirate ship.

But if you're looking for an alternate in your Moderate price-range, though, I would consider Port Orleans: Riverside in the Magnolia Bend Section. Although its pool has a large slide and jacuzzi, keep in mind that it's hard to beat CBR's pirate ship. However, what gives Port Orleans a leg up over CBR any time of the year is its boat to Downtown Disney. We've stayed at Port Orleans twice, and on the days we go to Animal Kingdom, we've opted to spend our evening at Downtown Disney via the boat because Animal Kingdom closes early. It's a good pair.

Port Orleans' lush landscape makes it different from the beach-feel of CBR, so you will have an entirely different resort experience. Its campus is large like CBR but somehow the tree canopy provides cooler temperatures and makes for pleasant walks. Although I personally prefer the smaller French Quarter section, and a water-view room of the Sassagoula at that, the pool at Riverside is much better and probably a better fit for families.

In your dilemma, there's also something comforting about returning to a resort with which you're familiar. Our family likes to return to Fort Wilderness and appreciates its familiarity, and we spice it up by requesting different loops in which to camp.  If you decide to stay with CBR, make sure and request a different building or upgrade to one of the Pirate-themed rooms if you didn't stay in one on your last visit.

Whether you chose the familiar CBR or try Port Orleans, you won't be disappointed.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
