    We just booked our rooms at the Swan hotel on the disneyworld property. We are in the process of purchasing and reserving our park tickets. As a family of 2 adults and 2, 6 year olds - dow we need magic bands and how do we order them?

    Thank you for stopping by planDisney with your vacation planning question.  How exciting to be planning your upcoming stay at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel during the holiday season.  I have been fortunate enough to attend two conferences at the Walt Disney World Swan in the past and fell in love with their Westin heavenly beds and their signature Westin White Tea scent.  In fact I love the scent so much that I bought it for my own home, despite my husband's best attempts to sway me towards scenting our home with Walt Disney World Turkey Leg scent.

    Now to answer your question about "needing" MagicBands for your upcoming vacation.  The simple answer is you do not need MagicBands, only your theme park tickets to gain admittance to the theme parks and link your Disney PhotoPass Photos.  However are MagicBands easier?  Why yes, yes they are indeed a very nice convenience.  I have vacationed at Walt Disney World in the "olden days" before the MagicBands invention and personally prefer these little Magical bracelets to carrying tickets around.  As a Mom of four I love not having to hand out and retrieve each person's ticket after we enter the theme parks.  I also love being able to just tap my MagicBand to link our PhotoPass photos and also how PhotoPass ride photos autoMagically show up on our account without having to stop and link them after our ride.  I find the best place to purchase MagicBands is via shopDisney.  There are so many styles to choose from that everyone in your family is sure to find a favorite!

    My advice to you is to let your budget determine if the convenience is worth it to you or not.  If having a little more spending money during your vacation is more of a priority, then simply use your tickets instead of purchasing MagicBands and you will find your vacation is no less Magical.  Another option would be to purchase MagicBands for the adults in the party and have the children use their theme park tickets for admittance and then store them away after you have entered the theme park.  Only one person in your party needs to tap their MagicBand (or theme park ticket) to link your PhotoPass photos.  And as long as one person is wearing a linked MagicBand during the rides that have PhotoPass photos then those photos will be linked to your account.  Not everyone in the party needs to have a MagicBand on for this feature to work.
