I've booked 2 rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort for the end of June. As far as EVERYTHING else... I have no earthly idea. Packing, Planning, Reservations, Parks... I've read the basics on Disney's site.... but I'm looking for more.... lots more. help?

    Hi Mandi,

Your first Walt Disney World vacation is so exciting, and it can be a little overwhelming too!

Choosing your resort is a great first step, and you've come to the right place to help you in the planning process.  I or any of the other moms on the panel are here to help you plan a vacation filled with magical memories!  Although I can't possibly tell you everything you need to know in one answer, I can point you in the right direct.  Then, come back and ask more questions - as many as you need - until your vacation is planned.

What to pack? It will be hot, so summer clothes and bathing suits are a must.  You also might want rain ponchos; you never know when liquid sunshine will be part of the forecast, and you don't want to dampen your spirits.  Sunscreen, comfortable shoes and a camera are all important too.

The first thing I like to do is figure out my meals and make those reservations.  You definitely want to make plans as soon as possible.  I know it's hard to believe, but people really do make reservations 180 days in advance, and many popular places fill up quickly.

We like to eat at at least one (sometimes 2) table service restaurants per day, often character meals.  Some of my favorites are: Whispering Canyon Cafe, Chef Mickey's, 50s Prime Time Cafe, Teppan Edo, Biergarten, Tusker House (for breakfast) and Crystal Palace.  Most of these restaurants are conveniently located in a park or in a resort that is easy to get to.  You can look at sample menus on the main site, then call 407-939-3463 or make reservations right online.

Decide which parks you want to visit each day.  Again, we can help with that better if we know your travel dates.  You'll probably dine in or near the park you choose to visit.

Hope this helps get you started!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
