We booked a reservation for dec 14-18th 2010 at the fort wilderness cabins. We have gone three times before and had great experiences at Port Orleans Riverside. How are the buses at the cabins? Is there a certain cabin location that we should request?

    Ann:

You have a lot to look forward to when you stay at a cabin at Fort Wilderness--especially the week before Christmas!

If you hadn't heard, many campers, including those staying in the cabins, decorate their sites, cabins,  even golf carts for the Christmas season!  The campus will have a rustic Christmas feel that is hard to recreate at the other resorts.  And if you're worried about missing the boat at Port Orleans, don't worry. The fort has two: one that goes to Magic Kingdom and one that circles to the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge and back again.

There are two bus systems at Fort Wilderness: park buses that take you from the Outpost of the campus to the theme parks and internal buses that will take you from your cabin loop to the Outpost.  Each cabin loop has its own positives: 2800 is closest to the Outpost if you want to start and end your mornings with a 10- to 15-minute walk to the bus and skip the internal buses; 2100 is a favorite of mine because it is so shaded; 2500 and 2600 are nearer to the fort's smaller, quieter pool and its laundry facilities.

When it comes to requests, let Disney know what you're looking for. Do you want to be near an internal bus stop? The laundry? Away from the main road and noise? Want a cabin with a little more flat surroundings for children to play outside? Tell them what you want, and in the order you want it, rather than requesting a specific cabin or loop and you'll probably get closer to what you're looking for in your vacation.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
