I booked 2 res at same villa 2 different dates, didn't know which one I was going to use. Used current points for 1 the other was borrowed points Should I cancel the original use yr points & use the borrowed ones so that I can bank the current yr

Hi there, Sheila! Thanks so much for visiting planDisney--I hope you are having the best day ever. Let's make it even better with a friendly Member-to-Member chat about all things Disney Vacation Club!

I love the flexibility that DVC provides, with many different ways to use your Vacation Points to suit your travel needs. Banking and borrowing is serious Member math, and I always find myself checking and double-checking anytime I need to make a transaction--so your question is definitely speaking to me!

Sheila, your instincts on how to handle your reservations are right on point. I recommend canceling the reservation using current Use Year points. However, there are two factors to consider before you proceed:

    • As long as your check-in date is at least 31 days away at the time you cancel the reservation, the Vacation Points will be returned to your account in the Use Year the reservation fell in. If the check-in date is between 1 and 30 days out, the points will go into a holding account in that Use Year.
    • Remember that the Rule of Four applies here. This means that you can bank points as long as it's not within four months of the end of the Use Year. For example, my June Use Year means that my banking deadline is January 31.
With this information, you should be able to make the best decision on how to proceed with your reservations--I hope it's been helpful!  Please don't hesitate to reach out directly if I can assist with any other questions related to DVC or Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks again for visiting planDisney, Sheila!
