We have booked a resort/parks/dining package. If we purchase Disney gift cards locally can our Key to the World be linked to them or just a credit card? Also if there is a remaining balance on the card do we get $ or have to spend it at disney?

Here is the scoop on the Disney Gift cards.  Yes, you can purchase them locally however, no they can not be linked to your key to the world card.  The Key to the World Card is connected to a credit card.  Here is a way around the credit card vs. gift card.  I would each evening stop at the front desk and pay the charges to the room that day with the gift card.  I could select certain charges I wanted to be paid with the gift card.  The gift card can not be held at the desk, you must bring to clear the account each night.  I also would recommend asking if the location accepts the Disney Gift Card, because the last time I was there we wanted to go up in the hot air balloon in Downtown Disney, and they could not accept that card for payment.  If there is a remaining balance, no, it remains a balance until you either spend it at the parks, online or in the stores.  Hope this helps.
