    We are booked for the last 2 weeks of August. We know it will be hot. Do you know how much the fan water bottles are and what type of batteries they take so we can pack extras. Any tips for the heat? Kids are 12 and want to wear crocs - good idea?

    Hi Tara,

    You're right, its typically pretty hot in at WDW in August. Average high temp is 91.5 with an average low temp of 73.4. Its also pretty humid. Its very common to get an afternoon thundershower too. But it usually blows over pretty quickly & cools the temperature down which makes for some nice evenings. The average precipitation in August is 6.78 inches.

    Here are some suggestions to help beat the heat:

    * Buy a Frogg Togg (available at most sporting goods stores) & keep it around your neck or head - I cut mine in 1/2 to get double the use of it. I take a Ziploc to put it in when I'm not using it. They stiffen up when they dry but soften right back up when you rewet them.
    * Get a misty fan - available in the parks if you don't already have one. I think I paid about $15.00 for mine. They take AA batteries & extras is a great idea.
    * Wear light colored clothing.
    * Use a visor instead of a hat.
    * Drink lots of water - don't get dehydrated.
    * Seek out attractions where you can spend some time in the air conditioning. Let me know if you need suggestions.
    * If you're staying on property, take advantage of AM & PM Extra Magic Hours when temperatures are more pleasant.
    * If anyone starts to feel ill, there are First Aid Stations located in each theme park.
    * When the temperatures get too hot, go back to your resort to go for a swim & cool off. You can go back to the parks after dinner when it is cooler.
    * Visit one of the water parks.

    Lots of people want to wear Crocs to the parks but only the Mickey ones are allowed - JUST KIDDING! I usually make by boys wear sneakers to hopefully prevent them from losing them boarding rides, tripping or getting blisters. If your kids are used to wearing them for a long period of time, give it a try. Just make sure you at least pack their sneakers for your trip.

    Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
