We just booked Kidani Village for March - first stay there. How long is walk between Kidani and Jambo? I would like our boys (10, 8) to study about Africa before we arrive so they can appreciate resort more. Any suggestions for books, movies, themes? THX

    Hi Laura:

I'm a huge fan of Animal Kingdom Lodge, and it's my family's home Disney Vacation Club Resort.  Animal Kingdom Lodge is made up of two Resorts, Jambo House and Kidani Village. The Resorts are close by to each other, and can be reached via a short bus ride or via walkway (about a 15 minute walk).

My boys are 8 and 6, and they love learning about history and different cultures.  My family has never done any pre-study, but I think a basic overview of Africa geography would be great for your boys so they understand that Africa is made up of many different cultures.  When we've visited Animal Kingdom Lodge, including the restaurants, some of the Cast Members who work there are from Africa.  Feel free to encourage your boys say hi to these Cast Members and ask them about Africa.

When you check in, ask for copies of the Wildlife Field Guide, enough for each party member. The field guide is a fun way to learn about the resort's animals. The guide will provide not only a listing of the animals roaming the resort's savannas, but will also provide animal identification pointers, behavioral tips, and check boxes to record any animals you spot. Think of it as a great big Disney scavenger hunt around the resort.

Although the animals may be subject to change, our family spotted the following animals from our balcony: Ankole Cattle (look for one walking a bit lopsided, as if one horn is heavier than the other horn), Zebra, Okapi, Roan Antelope, Greater Kudu, Impala, Nyala, Giraffe, and ostriches.

    Enjoy your vacation.
