We booked our first Disney cruise for April 2015. Miami, Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. I cant find a straight answer. Do we have to have passports? Id rather not spend the extra 500 bucks on passports if we can take birth certificates.

    Hi Heather -

Thank you for visiting the Moms Panel site and sending in a question.  I am so excited to hear that you're booking your very first Disney Cruise for next year!  It won't be long and you'll be sailing with the whole gang out on the high seas!

Though it is highly recommended to travel with valid passports, it is not a requirement if you are traveling from a US port to Grand Cayman, Castaway Cay, and then back to the same US port on the same ship (aka a 'closed loop cruise'). All your travelers will be required to carry their Birth Certificates.  Travelers who are 16 years old and older, will also need to have a US government issued photo ID.   I've also checked with the Disney Cruise Travel Desk and they've confirmed the same information. Please note, that you'll always see the suggestion to carry a valid passport, in the event that you have to fly home due to an unexpected emergency.

I hope that this information helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Have a magical day, Heather!
