I JUST booked my very first cruise for June 2012 on the Disney Magic out of New York!! I know nothing about cruising and lots about Disney World. What is the most important information to know ahead of time?

    Hi, Debra!

Congratulations on booking your very first cruise aboard the Disney Magic next year! You have made a great choice by sailing with Disney Cruise Line, and you'll wonder why you haven't cruised with Disney before!

Like you, I was well versed in a Disney Parks vacation before our family took our first DCL cruise four years ago, and although there are some similarities in terms of doing your research and a little planning, a cruise actually requires less of you as the family vacation planner.

If you haven't already, make sure you order the free planning DVD and take a look at the videos on line. Become familiar with the ship and the entertainment, dining and recreations options.  You may want to make a spa appointment or an adult dining reservation at Palo.  Plus, if you have children traveling with you, you'll want to make nursery reservations for little ones and register big kids for the other kids' clubs.  Once your fare is paid in full, you can do all this and book port adventures, too.

I hope that points you in the right direction. Between now and then, come back and ask more questions -- it's fun to plan and anticipate your trip together. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
