Hi! We have booked our first cruise on the Dream on July 24th! TOO EXCITED! Should we surprise our 8 and 6 year old daughters or tell them up front so they can help with the planning? Hubby almost let it out! I don't know if I can hold it! Any suggestions?

    Hi, Vonda!

I'm a good secret-keeper except when it comes to really good news like a Disney Cruise -- then, I'm like a shaken champagne bottle! I can't wait to pop my cork and bubble forth!

A few years ago, my husband and I chose to surprise our four children with a Disney Cruise, and it remains as a benchmark in our family as one of our greatest moments. They were overwhelmed and still talk about how we pulled up to the port terminal in our family car...under the auspices of trying to get a closer look at the ship...only to find out that we were actually checking in ourselves!  Wow! It still gives me chills!

So, if you haven't already let the cat out of the bag, I would try to keep it from them and you enjoy your planning in secret. Begin now concocting your story with your husband as how to tell the girls. Don't forget to have someone run the video camera for you and upload your unveiling to the Let the Memories Begin site.

If they've been to Walt Disney World, you can tell them you're going there and only reveal the cruise when you arrive at the port. Or, you can tell them in the airport by presenting them with clues or a special gift. If you're driving, we told our kids we were vacationing in nearby Cocoa Beach and only visiting Port Canaveral to see a Disney ship!

Just tell yourself that the surprise will be sweeter the longer you wait! Blessings on you and yours as you make memories which will last a lifetime. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
