I have booked our family vacation for the cabins at fort wilderness. What can we expect for walking distances to/from the boat to magic kingdom? Or to buses that will take us to other parks?

    Hi Shelley!

Thank you for sending in your question to the Walt Disney World Moms Panel!

Fort Wilderness is a huge resort.  Disney advertises it as a mile long but I think it is on the order of 1.5 miles long x almost 1 mile wide.  There are over 400 cabins at Fort Wilderness and most are located at the far end of the resort, away from the marina and Pioneer Hall, but closer to the external buses. Needless to say, walking around the resort can take a long time.

Instead, you should plan on using the internal bus system.  Buses run about every 20 minutes.  To get to the Magic Kingdom, you would ride a bus down to the marina / lake area and then board a boat to the Magic Kingdom.  For all other destinations, you would take an internal bus and then switch to an external bus going to your destination of choice.  I would plan on it taking about an hour to go somewhere, which includes an average amount of time for waiting for the first bus.

I hope this helps!  Please write back with more questions!
